# Overview

Exploring nationalism and three distinct forms of nationalism including civic, cultural and ancestral. Each is examined in terms of how it defines national membership, preserves continuity and approaches migration, citizenship, demographics and self-determination.

Different forms of nationalism may suit different societies, depending on whether they prioritise political inclusion, cultural preservation or ancestral continuity. A nation-state can combine these approaches in different ways rather than adopt just one. The different approaches and the possible solutions they offer are explored.
